Reusable Nichrome V® and platinum (with 15% iridium for strength) inoculating loops and needles are available mounted in handles or without handles. Insulated brass handles are available separately. Calibrated loops are also available, and are guaranteed to hold the volume indicated, having been calibrated in accordance with A.S.M. and A.P.H.A. High impact polystyrene loops and needles are smooth and flexible to facilitate uniform and smooth streaking without damaging the gel surface. Needles are straight and suitable for removal of specimens of single colonies. Packed sterile in safe, tamper proof, zip-seal resealable bags.
Disposable inoculating loops and needles do not need flaming and thus eliminate the risk of infection due to aerosol formation of pathogenic substances. Cross-contamination due to improper sterilization is eliminated. They can be used under hoods without danger, and are color-coded for ease of size identification. Nunc Loops and Needles are accurate to semiquantitative standards for handling samples, and surface-treated to enhance adhesion of the droplets. There is a reduced risk of spreading microorganisms since the loops are sterile, nontoxic, disposable polystyrene. These are color-coded to make selection of proper size easier.
BD Difco Inoculating Loops and Needles are carefully designed to provide the flexibility and control of traditional wire inoculating loops. The use of a special resin allows maximum control and minimum plated media damage. The ultra-smooth loop surface allows easy streaking. The Loops are free of lubricants, oils and electrostatic charges, enabling complete liquid transfer. The volume delivery consistency of each production lot is quality controlled and certified using the Evans Blue Dye Method, cited in various publications by the American Society for Microbiology. This method measures the actual volume of liquid transferred by a loop, and is the preferred colorimetric method.

Handy design combines two instruments into one. Choose among the following combinations: a 10µL loop with a needle; a 1µL loop with a needle, or a 10µL loop and a 1µL loop. BioLoop® disposable inoculation Loops and Needles are precision molded from biologically inert polymers and eliminate the need for flaming metal loops and exposure to airborne pathogens. All combinations are irradiation sterilized and available individually wrapped or in zip seal bags.
Spread cells onto an agar plate easily with the Bacteria Cell Spreader. The spreader is 6.7 (171mm) long with a 1.4 (36mm) spreading bar. Sterilized and packaged individually.
Lazy-L-Spreaders are supplied sterile -- no need to flame sterilize or autoclave.
The Astral Inoculation System offers convenience, economy, accuracy and the dependable sterility of Astral disposable inoculation Loops, Astral Streaking Needles and Astral Clone-Piks. Loops are calibrated using both the Evans Blue Dye spectrophotometric procedure and the gravimetric method. Loops, Streaking Needles and Clone-Piks are verified to be free of DNA, RNase, DNase, Pyrogens and PCR inhibitors. Each of these products is available 96 to a rack, 10 racks to a case. Each rack has 96 individual tubular chambers. Each chamber receives one of 96 Loops (or Streaking Needles, or Clone-Piks, depending on the product ordered).
After all chambers are filled, they are hermetically sealed with an aluminum sealing film. A dust cover is then heat-shrunk over the entire rack, and the rack is sterilized by irradiation. Packaging is static-free. An autoclavable, reusable Astral Handle is included with each case. To withdraw a sterile inoculation product from the rack, use the handle to puncture the aluminum film over the desired chamber. Push the handle into the chamber, where it will lock onto the desired product. The sterile Loop, Streaking Needle or Clone-Pik may then be withdrawn, ready to use. The rest remain unaffected, sealed and sterile, until needed. After use, the product is ejected from the handle and disposed of.
This system eliminates flame sterilization and the hazards of spatter and cross-contamination, and allows the technologist to inoculate prepared plates very quickly. Ideal for the semiquantitative reinoculation of liquid microbial cultures, the direct inoculation of the polymerase chain reaction with plaques or colonies for rapid characterization of DNA™s cloned in viral, bacterial or yeast vectors, and similar applications.
